CONFLICT

The role of memory, the expression of emotion, and the exploration of relationships between people and places are all preoccupations. Preema explores development of a personal visual language of portraiture, which challenges traditional forms of representation. The journey of abstract to concrete is quite surreal. Here, thoughts inside take shapes—boundaryless, whereas the canvas itself has a frame limit. Preema started her early journey with abstraction. She is highly influenced by Mohammad Kibria, who is the father of modern art in Bangladesh, Soulages, a French painter, British painter Howard Hodgkin and Antoni Tapies. The works of these artists inspired her to create a style in her own brush strokes. Preema, as a conscious and expressionist artist, her every step, from the beginning, was taken carefully. Her alignment with existence makes her keen and aware of her surroundings. In her abstract series, she creates a conscious atmosphere through her subconscious mind. All images are translated into forms and figures, Preema wanted to find her enigmatic sense of abstraction. She closed her eyes, she visualized the unknown shapes. Unknown surreal storytelling was her prime objective of abstraction.

Her abstract surfaces are very thick and layered. Each and every layers of her abstract paintings is a proof to a particular time. It keeps the record of its duration within the painting. Her paintings are deeply rooted and engraved. Disturbing scratches on the surface declares her freedom of expression. Through her signature colors she paints her own environment, moment and metaphors. Black is her color, she believes. Her black organically creates a language which is very crucial to connect. She understands each and every grades of this shade. Though the journey of abstraction created and inflected her rest of the process, she believes that ‘Conflict’ is a power to reconnect and create a complex context.
