In ‘See You See Me’, I moved under a sheet covering me fully, so no one-at-first could see the ‘real’ me. I wanted to build curiosity on the unseen to test the limits of others. I often attempt to create a connection between viewer and performer.
In this performance, I practiced my intimate behaviour underneath by using regular objects (torch light, sound) as if my audiences are blind, as if they are not seeing me.-at-times, I lit up torch light, changed the colour of light, scream from inside, music was played beneath the white sheet, one leg came out with blood upon it.
I even used visual projection on my body and showcased letters and fonts. I came out blind folded after a while from the covered sheet and interacted with the audience through my body parts. I made them engage in a forceful act of nature. I performed with the audience after my actions under the cover. I touched them and allowed them to touch me.
In this particular performance, I noticed people try and follow me when they see me. I wonder how they will react when they are not seeing the person, rather they had to tolerate the act, which is happening in front of their eyes.
I think we don’t allow ourselves to connect with unknown action or situation. So I prefer unknown setting and audiences to participate with me in the act. We have a tendency to copy or repeat. And in the process we lose the possibility of understanding the core objective of being and believing. Through such art performances, I build connection with the unseen and feel free to act-at-any level without feeling constraint.
